Taichung

Taichung is an elongated province, reaching from the West coast until central Taiwan; it shares a large part of its Southern border with Nantou.

Mount Lishan (literally the ‘pear mountain’) is the best-known tea producing mountain of Taichung. Lishan oolong is a High Mountain Tea, also known as gaoshan, that comes from this area. In addition Taichung is known for its Bubble Tea, commonly referred to as ‘boba’. This cold, often black tea, mixed with condensed milk, a sweetener like honey and transparent tapioca pearls, comes in endless variations, in numerous colours and flavours. The drink is very popular among the young generation and may have its origin in Taiwan, but has since become  a growing trend around the world.
