Chiayi

Chiayi is a province in the West of Taiwan, situated on the West coast and, on the other side, towards the interior, bordering with Nantou.

Like most of Taiwan, Chiayi too is very humid with a lot of rain and fog, especially towards the interior, high up in the mountains. These weather conditions and the high altitudes provide the ideal circumstances for the production of High Mountain tea, also called Gaoshan. The mountain Alishan (or just ‘Mount Ali’) is known for its High Mountain Oolongs. Alishan oolong is one of the best known among them.
